On the eve of the 2018 Baku Judo World Championships, it is with great sadness that the international Judo community has learned of the passing away of Dr. Michael BIGOSZEWSKI of Poland, who was still an active member of the IJF Judo for Peace commision.

Having studied at the Warsaw Physical Education Academy, Michael BIGOSZEWSKI was during his career the Head of Martial Arts at the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of Poland and was for several years the Secretary General of the Polish Judo Federation, while being a prominent adviser to the Minister of Sports of Poland, recognized for his knowledge of sports and martial arts in particular. He was also second Secretary General of the European Judo Union, when Marius Vizer, before becoming President of the International Judo Federaton, was President of the continental institution.

Member of honor of the European Judo Union, he was a pioneer for the development of judo in his country and in Europe and had in heart to always promote the values ​​of our sport for the benefit of the youth of the world.

The International Judo Federation extends its deepest condolences to Michael BIGOSZEWSKI's family and friends.
