On Saturday 8th March 2025, the judo cadets at Dzaleka refugee camp in Malawi, cerebrated the Judo for Peace ‘Kids Corner Day’ in style. The JFP Kids Corner Day was established by the Judo Association of Malawi to provide opportunity for the refugee children to showcase what they learn by using judo as a tool for education.

It was great to see how the young judoka, some of them only 5 years old, were mentioning all the 8 values of judo by heart. Several of them explained why the values are important and how they are helping them in their daily lives.

Most of them mentioned how respect, friendship, honesty and courage help them to overcome challenges in and out of the dojo. The children then displayed some of the judo techniques that they know.

The event was also graced by the parents who wanted to see what their children had learned on the tatami. 46 young people participated in this important event.

"I am extremely happy to see my child learning about values through judo and I hope she will grow into a positive citizen," commented one of the parents.

As the inhabitants of the camp face many challenges at Dzaleka, the Judo Association of Malawi also took this opportunity to share food stuffs with the participants.

Judo has the power to unite people around its values. Dzaleka and Malawi proved it once again.
