The second day of the African Senior Championships Abidjan 2025 saw a strong performance from Egypt, claiming three of the seven titles on offer, with the others going to Madagascar, Morocco, Guinea and Tunisia.

The Egyptian festival began in the -81 kg category with Abdelrahman Abdelghany winning, ahead of Valentin Houinato of Benin. Zambia’s Timothy Meuwsen and Senegal's Namory Keyta reached the podium with strong performances. In the -100 kg category, Egypt again achieved a double by qualifying Abdalla Abdelsamea (EGY) and Omar Elramly (EGY) for the final, with Abdelsamea winning. The bronze medals were won by Rayane Zakaria Benatia (ALG) and Koussay Ben Ghares (TUN). Finally, in the men's heavyweight division, Mohamed Aborakia (EGY) defeated Mbagnick Ndiaye (SEN), while Mustapha Yasser Bouamar (ALG) and Piter Da Silva (ENG) took the bronze medals.

With Egypt's overwhelming dominance in the other men's categories, it remained to be seen what would happen in the -90 kg division. Achraf Moutii (MAR) won good though, ahead of Abdelaziz Ben Ammar (TUN). Rémi Feuillet (MRI) and Aly Abdelaal (EGY) placed third.

-70kg podium

In the women's divisions, Aina Laura Rasoanaivo Razafy (MAD) won the gold medal in the -70 kg group, while Zita Ornella Biami (CMR) won the silver medal. Diassonema Mucungui (ANG) and Wided Rajhid (TUN) took the bronze medals.

Marie Branser (GUI) was able to celebrate victory in the -78 kg category, after defeating Arij Akkab (TUN) in the final. Georgika Wesly Djengue Moune (CMR) and Dyhia Benchallal (ALG) took home the two bronze medals on offer.

Finally, in the +78 kg category, North Africa dominated with Tunisian Siwar Dhawedi winning, ahead of Meroua Mammeri (ALG). The other Tunisian judoka, Serra Mzoughi, finished in third place alongside Crislayn Rodrigues (ENG).

The individual competitions are over and now it's time for the mixed team competition, which will take place on Monday, 28th April.
