All around the world, International Women’s Day is inspiring projects aimed at the engagement and celebration of women, whether in sport, in leadership or in any walk of life. The Irish Judo Association is no exception, recently posting a very positive summary of their activities.

“As we celebrate International Women's Day, we are proud to showcase the incredible strides being made to encourage more women to take part in judo across Ireland. From taster sessions to competitive success, our female judoka are proving that the sport is growing stronger than ever!

  • Trinity Judo Club's Women's Taster Session

In collaboration with Trinity's Women's Health Society, Trinity Judo Club hosted a women's taster session aimed at encouraging more women to try judo for the first time. It’s a fantastic initiative, making our sport more accessible!

  • Women's Open Mat Training

To provide more opportunities for women in judo, a women's open mat session was held, giving both new and experienced members additional training time to refine their skills and practise randori in a supportive environment.

  • Intervarsity Champions

At the Intervarsity Judo Competition at University College Cork, the Trinity women's team dominated, taking home gold in the team event Massive congratulations to all the competitors, including those who competed in the individual categories, where we saw some incredible performances.”

It is wonderful to see so many countries jumping in at all levels to promote the inclusion, development, retention and excellence of women in judo. Congratulations to the Irish Judo Association, not only for these projects but for their leadership team who are so committed to International Women’s Day.
