“We organize a Judo Safari where the kids have to do some physical activity and other fun stuff. There’s kind of sumo-like action, alternating with more creative activities like drawing or photo fun”, explains Lisa, a Youth Rep for the German Judo Federation (DJB).
And fun it is. Kids rolling over the tatami, drawing judo scenes, making a tatami out of Lego, posing with DJB mascot Yoko, making selfies at the photobooth or playing the judo wheel of fortune.
At the end of ‘their’ safari, the participating kids receive a certificate. Depending of the number of points they won, they get an animal sticker where the animal represents a color, similar to the judo belt: a yellow kangaroo, a red fox, a green snake, a blue eagle, a brown bear or a black panther.
The German Judo Federation also uses the Judo Safari to promote the sport at other events.
