The Himalayan region is stunningly beautiful but remains one of the harshest environments in which to live. People living in the mountains in Nepal are hardy and resilient because they have to be. Despite all the challenges of climate, terrain and economy, thriving communities punctuate the landscape and judo has become an important part of that.

A new addition to the Everest Judo Club, which was inaugurated in May 2022 with great support from IJF Climate Ambassador and world medallist Sabrina Filzmoser (AUT), has inspired further growth of the judo community in the region.

Under the guidance of Kinga Sensei, a judo coach from Bhutan, the Everest Judo Dojo Chaurikharka has been growing stronger every day with more and more young judoka stepping onto the mat, all with confidence and hope.

Kinga Sensei said, “Here in the Everest region, opportunities for children are very limited. Judo is not just a sport, it is the only professional sport that gives mountain children a real path towards discipline, education and a better future. Through Judo, they learn respect, courage and belief in themselves. It keeps their dreams alive beyond the mountains.”

The club added, “Kinga’s dedication, hard work and heart are changing lives. He is not only teaching judo, he is giving our children purpose, strength and hope. The Everest Judo Club family will always be grateful for his support and inspiration.”
