On 21st December 2024, the Island of Sao Tomé made history by organising their first ever national judo championships. The event was previsouly always organised on Principe.

Organised by the Judo Global Association of Sào Tomé and Prîncipe, the event brought together 42 athletes from various judo schools and clubs, showcasing notable skill, determination and the values of judo.

Athletes competed in categories divided by age (children, cadets, juniors and seniors), gender and weight. The standout performers were from the Autonomous Region of Principe, leading the medal table with 7 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. They were followed by the Judo Academy of Sao Tomé (5 gold, 7 silver and 12 bronze medals). Fitness Gym and the Portuguese School of Sào Tomé and Prîncipe also won several important medals.

This remarkable event was made possible through the efforts of the Judo Global Association of Sào Tomé and Principe with the invaluable support of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneurship, the Regional Government of Principe, Global Tec, the Sào Tomé and Principe Football Federation, and Turbo CST.

The championship not only celebrated local talent but also strengthened the bonds between the judo communities of Sao Tomé and Principe, reaffirming a shared commitment to the growth and excellence of judo in the country.
