100 years almost to the day after the last edition of the Summer Games in Paris in 1924, the Olympic family is preparing to return to France to offer the public enthralling exploits and emotions.
Friday 26th July will be the day of the grand opening ceremony which will take place for the first time in history, not along the banks of the Seine, but on the Seine itself. Not far from there, judo will be in the last moments of preparation for the big planetary meeting, since the next day, 27th July, the first two categories will be in action and for the following eight days, including the mixed team event at the end of the judo tournament.
Speculation will then become futile; it will be necessary for all the athletes to step on the tatami with the desire to win anchored in their bodies, in compliance with the rules, fair play, the values of judo and Olympism. "Citius, Altius, Fortius" (Faster, Higher, Stronger) will become everyone's motto.
A year is long and short at the same time. Judo has already entered its second year of Olympic qualification, which began last year in Mongolia. In 2023, still in Mongolia, the second part of the qualification was launched, now offering 100% of the ranking points earned.
Many events are still to come, events that can confirm or upset the ranking. In the months to come we will dissect the results, analyse the forces involved, determine who has the profile to become the new Olympic champion in each weight category.
In the meantime, let's stop for a few moments on this mark, both virtual and so symbolic of that one year before the Games. For eight days, we will invite you to immerse yourself in the history of judo at the Olympic Games, we will tell you about the heroes of past and modern judo, we will explain the rules to you with even more precision, we will promote the federations and their champions. It will be a question of rivalry, personal history, coaches' points of view and more. Everyone will benefit from it and above all everyone can in their own way be inoculated by this totally harmless virus that is the spirit of the Games and of judo.
