With the next event on the Para-judo calendar taking place in the Georgian capital following the Tbilisi Grand Slam 2025, the International Judo Federation and IBSA (International Blind Sports Federation) renewed their partnership and a new Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the two organisations. The MoU was signed by IJF President, Mr Marius Vizer, and IBSA President, Mr Ilgar Rahimov.

This agreement will open new avenues for the development and expansion of programmes for blind athletes. This protocol not only strengthens the partnership between the IJF and IBSA but also lays the foundation for innovative approaches to promoting judo worldwide.

Key Points:

  • Funding: joint funding and a grant from the IJF to cover key expenses such as referees and technical staff.
  • ⁠Regional Development: The MoU provides for the active development of judo in Africa and the Americas, focusing on increasing participation and supporting gender equality, as well as youth programmes.
  • ⁠Development Programmes: joint organisation of seminars, training camps and other events aimed at improving the qualifications of coaches and referees.
  • ⁠Technical Expertise: providing technical knowledge and expertise, databases and software for competition management.
  • ⁠Media: supporting the promotion of IBSA Judo in the media and on IJF platforms.
  • ⁠Competition Standards: organising competitions in accordance with IBSA rules, while respecting the IJF standards and technical regulations.
  • ⁠Monitoring: a co-ordination structure will be created to oversee the implementation of the MoU. The designated representatives are Rufat Hajili, IBSA Executive Director, Saeid Mollaei, IJF staff member, and Janos Tardos, Chairman of the IBSA Judo Committee.
