It must be said that once you are an Olympic champion, even if the title changes hands, you remain one for life.
In the series offered to you, we go back to 1992, to a time when the weight categories were slightly different. For example, the -63kg category was then -61kg, and in 1992, the Olympic champion was Catherine 'Cathy' Fleury, who is still very active in international judo today as a refereeing supervisor.
And more to come soon
The -73kg men were then the -71kg men and the Olympic champion was Toshihiko Koga (JPN), gone far too soon (2021). Today it is his children who follow in the footsteps of their illustrious father. These two examples show how rich the history of judo is in events and characters who have written the legends of our sport.
At the end of July we will open a new page but in the meantime we have immense pleasure in reading all those that have already been written.
