The International Judo Federation and Panamerican Judo Confederation recently organized an important and successful seminar in the Dominican Republic to present and explain the modified judo rules that are now under testing until the World Championships in Budapest this summer.

The International Judo Federation has acted quickly post-Rio 2016 to build on the momentum of the IJF World Judo Tour and the hugely successful London 2012 Olympics and Brazil’s triumphant first Olympiad. An adapted set of rules was announced in December, following key meetings between the IJF Executive Committee in Abu Dhabi and Tokyo, to drive the sport forward and make judo more dynamic and understandable and accessible to non-judo fans.

Former Men’s National Head Coach of Cuba, Justo Diaz, Development Director of the PJC, Jose H Rodriguez, Dominican Republic Minister of Sports, Danilo Diaz and his Vice Minister, Gilberto Garcia, Puerto Rican Judo Federation President, Porfirio Garcia, Dominican Republic Judo Federation President, Gilberto Garcia and PJC Referee, Julio Clemente, were among the distinguished guest who participated in the seminar.

The instructors were Porfirio Garcia, Robert Fukuda (USA), Julio Clemente, Hector Estevez (USA), Justo Noda and Curaçao Referee Efigenio Brafhart.
