Every year the world of cinema waits with excitement for the Academy Awards ceremony, which has been held in Los Angeles since 1929. This year, it was also the judo family that eagerly awaited the results because a great friend of judo, actor Adrien Brody, was in the running for a statuette.

On Sunday 2nd March Adrien Brody was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Brady Corbet's film, The Brutalist. IJF President Marius Vizer said, "The judo family congratulates Adrien Brody for the Oscar. We are proud that Adrian Brody is a judo friend."

For several years, it has been possible to meet Adrien Brody at World Judo Tour competitions, during which he greatly enjoys discovering the essence of judo. In 2017, he declared, "To see judo in its professional form is really remarkable. Judo is a sport but there is a lot more to it. It is about an internal balance, it's not purely about strength. If you look at anyone who excels in anything they are doing, they make it look easy, but it's not easy. The way to get there is through being fluid, mindful and interactive. I feel that is primarily what judo is about."

Like all great champions, Adrien Brody excels in everything he does. This Academy Award is indeed the second he has won, among a multitude of other awards, after he won a first statuette for his masterful role as pianist Władysław Szpilman in Roman Polanski's film The Pianist.

Today, the entire judo family is very proud to count Adrien Brody among its friends and congratulates him warmly on his award and his entire career.
