Nazim Hüseynov, born on August 2, 1969 in Baku, is an Azeri judoka who excelled in the super lightweight category (under 60 kg). A double European champion and world silver medallist, he participated in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and won gold.
Becoming the first Azeri Olympic champion after the independence of his country, he is a living legend and sporting idol in his country. He developed a love for the sport from his childhood and it was after watching a film about Yasuhiro Yamashita that he decided to get into judo.
Today, Nazim Hüseynov is the coach of the Azerbaijan national team.
