Batkhuyag came out strongly, attacking with a huge sasae that could have unbalanced anyone. Zolotukhin managed to refine his footing but it was a clear indication of how Batkhuyag intended the fight to go. The next big moment came almost at the end of normal time when the Mongolian competitor launched a driving uchi-mata from a fair distance away but it had traction and scored a yuko, sending the crowd wild. He held that yuko until the bell and took the last gold medal of the tournament for the home team.
Denis Batchaev (IJF), the number one seed coming into the tournament, threw and threw again in the first of the two bronze medal contest at +100 kg. He was never at risk from Utkirbek Turoboyev’s (UZB) less aggressive style and he secured his bronze medal with relative ease.
In the second bronze medal contest of the category, Grzegorz Teresinski (POL), had a difficult task ahead, facing Daigo Kagawa of Japan. An early semi-gaeshi gave Kagawa a yuko to protect and he protected it well, even adding a waza-ari with only 13 seconds to go. Japan had another medal to add to their growing tally.
