The ceremony was held during the visit of the organising committee of the World Judo Championship Doha 2023 to the Uzbek capital to attend the ongoing world championship.
Eid Al Muraikhi, Head of the Sports Committee at the World Judo Championship - Doha 2023 Organizing Committee said, “It is an absolute honour for us to receive the world judo championships flag from the IJF. We congratulate Tashkent and the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan for hosting a successful edition of World Judo Championships and we thank all the teams for their support over these few days, transferring their knowledge and expertise to our teams."
"Hosting the upcoming edition of the World Judo Championships is another feather in Qatar’s cap in light of its commitment to the development of judo in our region,” he added.
IJF President, Mr Marius Vizer, said, "As the World Judo Championships Tashkent 2022 are coming to an end, we are looking forward to opening the next chapter of our flagship event and we are working in close cooperation with Doha, Qatar, for the 2023 edition. Judo is travelling across the world from Uzbekistan to Qatar, spreading its values. Getting closer to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we are thankful for a fantastic success of the 2022 World Championships in Tashkent. Judo family will be united in Doha in 2023."
It is worth mentioning that the IJF delegation visited Doha last September where the IJF's team celebrated Qatar's preparations to host the world championships.
