What a challenging day for the top seeds; the -63kg group did not escape the rule either. Today, being number one in the world did not guarantee anything and sometimes did not even open the doors to the final block. Doria Boursas (FRA) suffered from it, as did Emily Daniela Jaspe (USA), Khurshida Razzokberdieva (UZB) and Marjona Nurulloeva (UZB), all eliminated prematurely. In the absence of the favourites, Türkiye, once again, pulled out all the stops and qualified Sinem Oruc to stand against Franziska Schloegl (AUT) in the final.
Sinem Oruc (TUR) vs Franziska Schloegl (AUT)
Sinem Oruc (TUR)
After a first alert coming from the Austrian side and a waza-ari that was eventually cancelled, it was Sinem Oruc who won the title with a powerful o-uchi-gari, fantastically executed. The gold medal went to Sinem Oruc and Türkiye. Didn't we say that Türkiye was building momentum? This is the proof of it. Türkiye is in orbit.
Lenka Tomankova (SVK) vs Sagda Ghonim (EGY)
Lenka Tomankova (SVK)
Lenka Tomankova (SVK) and Sagda Ghonim (EGY) qualified to fight for the first bronze medal. Tomankova tried a couple of attacks, just to feel her opponent out. The last attack was then tremendous; a massive uchi-mata and the match was over. It was a beautiful ippon and a bronze medal for Tomankova.
Khurshida Razzokberdieva (UZB) vs faced Emily Starzer (AUT)
In the second match for a bronze medal it was Khurshida Razzokberdieva (UZB) who faced Emily Starzer (AUT). The match was as fast as the previous one, Khurshida Razzokberdieva scoring a massive ippon with a tani-otoshi.
Medals, cheques and mascots were presented by Mr Samir AVDIĆ, Minister of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton and H.E. Yasser Abdelrahman Ali SOROUR, Ambassador for Egypt in Bosnia & Herzegovina
