Nadezhda Tatarchenko (IJF) was up against Anna Monta Olek (GER) for the first bronze medal of the category and Olek was determined to come out on top. She placed a yuko on the board inside the first minute from a rising uchi-mata, one which she replicated but for ippon this time, less than a minute later. Tatarchenko had no chance to get into the fight.
Karol Gimenes (BRA) has been on fire on day 3 of the OTP Group Tashkent Grans Slam 2025, taking out Olympic champion Shori Hamada (JPN) in the preliminaries. However, she slipped up in her quarter0final against Alina Boehm and found herself in the repechage. She reached the bronze medal contest relatively easily but there she was faced with Israel’s world champion and Olympic medallist Inbar Lanir who had also made a mistake in the morning session, losing to world silver medallist Zhenxhao Ma (CHN).
Gimenes was offered no opportunity to find her feet while Lanir dictated pace, grip and rhythm. The Israeli judoka reached down the back of her Brazilian opponent and launched a huge obi-tori-gaeshi. She continued with the momentum she had built and finished the contest with a lightning fast juji-gatame. It was bronze for Lanir, a perfect reward for a perfectly fought medal contest.
The final was not contested as Alina Boehm had to withdraw due to injury, sending the gold medal to Zhenzhao Ma automatically.
