Final
Marcelo Fronckowiak (BRA) vs Christian Parlati (ITA)
At the halfway mark only one penalty had been given to Marcelo Fronckowiak for a false attack, soon balanced by one against Parlati for passivity. With just over thirty seconds remaining, Parlati finally broke the deadlock with a sumi-gaeshi on the edge of the area, before doubling his lead moments later to secure the gold medal. These two were truly the standout performers of the day but the gold was for Christian Parlati and Italy.
Bronze Medal Contests
Noah Christiaens (BEL) vs Guilherme Schimidt (BRA)
Right from the beginning, Guilherme Schimidt appeared in full control, waiting patiently for the right opening. He struck with a powerful hiza-guruma for waza-ari, transitioning immediately into a hold-down for waza-ari-awasete-ippon; seventh World Judo Tour medal for Schimidt.
Murad Fatiyev (AZE) vs Adam Kopecky (CZE)
In the very first exchange, Kopecky surprised his opponent with a ko-uchi-gari for yuko. Despite heavy pressure from Fatiyev, the Czech judoka held firm until midway through the contest when he extended his lead by a second yuko, using kata-guruma. Just when things seemed under control, Fatiyev countered with a perfectly timed te-waza, scoring waza-ari to turn the tables. Even Kopecky’s third yuko couldn’t change the outcome; this bronze was for Murad Fatiyev and Azerbaijan.
