On October 21st, 2017, Mr. Abakar Djermah, President of the Judo Federation of Chad and Sport Director of the African Judo Union was elected President of the National Olympic Committee of Chad. For many years, President Djermah has been very active to promote judo and sports in his country, as well as on the continental level. This is a great achievement for him and for judo having been elected at this new position.
After his election with 29 votes, Mr. Djermah declared: "I want to congratulate General Idriss Dokony Adiker and his team for the last four years spent at the head of our National Olympic Committee. I want to underline his fairplay for having accepted the result and for having congratulated me. This is an example to be followed when the day will come for us to be replaced as well."
Talking about the future of sports in Chad, Mr. Dermah explained: "In 2020, I want Chad to be present in Tokyo but not as an invited country. I want our athletes to be qualified."
In order to achieve this goal, the newly elected President of the National Olympic Committee of Chad want to work closely with all federations and hope to get the support of everyone. His successes at the head of the Judo Federation will for sure help him a lot.
