The meeting focused on advancing judo in Australia in collaboration with the IJF. Key points included the need to increase judo participation to make it a major sport, addressing issues like non-professional coaches, and learning from successful marketing strategies in other countries.
The IJF Academy staff shared their experience in developing judo in various countries, emphasising the importance of a tailored approach for Australia, including marketing judo as an educational tool and preparing for the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
The meeting highlighted the need for higher coaching standards, including accreditation and professional development. The IJF Academy's digital resources and communication platforms were presented as tools to enhance judo programmes and community engagement. The parties agreed to continue the discussion during the OTP World Judo Championships Hungary 2025.
While the judo world is now focused on the coming world championships and the LA28 Olympic Games, the Brisbane 2032 Games are already on everyone's minds. The Australian Judo Federation's commitment to preparing the ground is strong; in less than eight years, it will be possible to reap the fruit of this work. It's never too early to start preparing for the future.
