Immediately after Judo was included in the Commonwealth Games core sports, the Bahamas was awarded the organisation of the Commonwealth Youth Games for 2017. The Judo Federation and National Olympic Committee worked hard to include Judo also in the list of sports for the Commonwealth Youth Games.

This proposal had the full support of the Bahamas Sport Minister, Hon.  Dr Danny Johnson. Judo was in fact listed for the first time in these Youth Games.

Hon. Dr Johnson accompanied the Bahamas Olympic delegation at the Olympic Games and together with Mr. D'Arcy Rahming ‎the president of the Bahamas Judo Federation ‎and Director of Sports Mr. Tim Munnings‎ discussed with the President of the IJF, Mr. Marius Vizer, Mr Jose Rodriguez, Development Director and Mr. Envic Galea, Director of the IJF Academy on the legacy of the CYG.

It was agreed that the Bahamas would ‎become a regional centre for the Academy, representing the Caribbean, the Bahamas would join with Mexico City and Miami to cover the Pan-American territory.

More discussions will be held on how to improve Judo in Bahamas.
