Watching Aleksei Toptygin (IJF) perform a perfect tai-otoshi in his first round contest, it could be understood that he was ready to throw, ready to apply high quality technical judo in the pursuit of a medal at the pinnacle event of the cadet year. Unseeded, he could have been discounted but he threw the number one seed too, in round two, to make it into the last 8 of the -50 kg category.

The number two seed at -50 kg, Carlos Filho (BRA) also fell but the third and fourth made it to their respective semi-finals. Husiyeev (AZE) then lost out to Toptygin, having to settle for a chance to win bronze in the final block later in the day. Pereira of Brazil, the 3rd seed, was the one to join Toptygin in the final, sailing through his half of the draw.

Cadet world number 5 Carlos Filho (BRA) wins his semi-final.

Last year’s winner at -50 kg was back for more in Lima, now competing at the weight above. Nihad Mamishov beat opponents from Canada, Poland and Hungary on his way to the semi-final stage where he beat number two seed Khazar Heydarov (UKR) to reach his second world cadet final. His opponent in the afternoon session will be Bat-Enerel Batbileg (MGL) who delivered a gutsy performance in the morning session.

2023 -50 kg world cadet champion Nihad Mamishov (AZE) worked hard in transition phases throughout the day.

Among the women, the -44 kg category was dominated by Slovakia’s number one seed Patricia Tomankova. She has been number one in the world for the last two years. Her route to the final was virtually uncontested and assured her of a third world cadet medal having won bronze in Sarajevo in 2022 and gold in Zagreb in 2023. She also has the European cadet title this year and is therefore building an impressive CV.

Obeying the seeding perfectly, Juliana Yamasaki (BRA) joined Tomankova in the final to ensure the final block would see the highest quality opposition vying for the gold medal.

Cadet world number 2 Juliana Yamasaki (BRA) has no trouble reaching the -44 kg final.

In the -40 kg category all 4 top seeds made it to the semi-final stages. There were no surprises at all in the category, which is in itself a surprise! Aiora Martin Carriches (ESP) as the number one, sent number 4 seed Aurora Ferro (ITA) to the bronze medal contest, while Mathilde Aurel of France did the same to third seed Sandra Walendzik (POL).

The Spanish competitor ensured she had a place in the world final.

The final block begins at 4pm local time. Tune in to JudoTV to stay up to date with all the action.
