The grand slam of Tbilisi has become, over the years, an essential stage of the World Judo Tour, attracting the best judoka on the planet. It must be said that Georgia is a melting pot of champions, as local athletes shine on the international scene, while Georgian judo spreads its quality and fighting spirit across the world.
We can therefore expect a quality show for this fifth stop on the world circuit this season. After Portugal, France, Israel and Uzbekistan, Georgia will offer an outstanding competition for the awarding of medals and precious points for Olympic qualification.
Last week, we celebrated 500 days to go before the Paris 2024 Games. Just a few days ago, even closer, we passed the symbolic mark of 50 days before the World Judo Championships - Doha 2023 (7th to 14th May). All of these steps are crucial as we navigate an exciting, thrilling Olympic cycle.
On Georgian lands, it will be difficult to compete with athletes whose red and white flag is embroidered on the heart. Heart is something they will have a lot of in front of their public, an audience that we know is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. But heart is also something the other delegations will not lack. To date, no less than 62 national teams are involved for more than 430 athletes, divided into 14 weight categories.
So, if you want to see beautiful judo, it's in Tbilisi that it will happen, as well as on https://live.ijf.org/
