The 2017 World Championships hosts opened their medal account on Friday with a superb bronze from KARAKAS Hedvig (HUN) before rank outsider SZABO Frigyes (HUN) took -73kg bronze on Saturday while the evergreen UNGVARI Miklos made history by taking gold at 37.
Day three was always going to revolve around former world silver medallist TOTH who has a tendency of being engaged in the most entertaining contests of the competition.
TOTH is always game for a toe-to-toe battle of wits and savoured every second in front of his home crowd as he negotiated his way through the field.
The 24-year-old who trains in Budapest is known for his maturity and modesty which he possesses in abundance and the highly-popular -90kg star shared his emotions after beating Georgia’s world bronze medallist Ushangi MARGIANI to gold.
“I wanted as many matches as possible, I really wasn't thinking about a medal,” TOTH told IJF commentator Sheldon FRANCO-ROOKS.
“As far as any pressure was concerned regarding KARAKAS and UNGVARI medalling on the previous days, that actually helped me because I knew that we already had medals.
“Winning the first gold medal since the birth of my baby really gives me a great feeling. Now I will focus on Tata where I will go for the international training camp to prepare for the World Championships in Baku.”
