A new chapter opens for Santomean judo. The Global Judo School of Sao Tome and Principe Judo Association officially inaugurated the new Global Judo School in the community of Nova Estrela, as part of the ‘Judo in Communities - Growing with Values’ project, co-financed with the support of Mr Nestor Umbelina from the Portuguese Co-operation and the International Judo Federation (IJF).

This new school opening marks a significant milestone in the process of decentralising access to sport and values-based education through judo. It is the second Global Judo School in the Autonomous Region of Principe and the fifth at national level.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by students, parents and members of the local community who welcomed this new chapter with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of belonging. This project aims to offer the children and youth of Nova Estrela regular and safe sports practice and also a learning space where values such as respect, discipline, mutual help and responsibility are nurtured on a daily basis.

"Judo is a powerful tool for individual and social transformation. By bringing this sport to communities further from urban centres, we are creating real opportunities for growth and inclusion. We are deeply grateful to the Portuguese Co-operation, Mr Nestor Umbelina, and the International Judo Federation, for believing in this dream with us," declared Andre Rosa, President of the Judo Global Association of Sao Tome and Principe.

The Judo Global Association reaffirms its commitment to continue expanding access to judo with quality, proximity and lasting social impact.
