The Tokyo Deaflympics are fast approaching and will take place from 15th to 26th November 2025, marking another milestone celebration of sporting excellence and inclusion. The opening ceremony will be held on 15th November, launching nearly two weeks of intense competition and cultural exchange among the world’s best deaf athletes.

The Deaflympics, first held in 1924, is one of the world’s oldest multi-sport events, second only to the Olympic Games. Organised by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD), they bring together thousands of athletes from across the globe who are deaf or hard of hearing, showcasing their extraordinary talent and determination. The Tokyo edition promises to uphold this proud tradition of fair play, respect and accessibility in sport.

Among the highlights of the Games will be the judo competition, which will take place at the prestigious Tokyo Budokan, a venue synonymous with martial arts heritage and excellence, from 16th to 18th November 2025.

The programme is divided as follows:

16th November – lightweight categories:

  • Men: –60 kg, –66 kg, –73 kg
  • Women: –48 kg, –52 kg, –57 kg

17th November – heavyweight categories:

  • Men: –81 kg, –90 kg, –100 kg, +100 kg
  • Women: –63 kg, –70 kg, –78 kg, +78 kg

18th November – team competition for both men and women

This year’s event has already broken participation records, welcoming 37 nations plus DINA (Deaf International Neutral Athletes), for a total of 38 delegations. Across the individual weight categories, 157 judoka (100 men and 57 women) will step onto the tatami in pursuit of Deaflympic glory. The team event will feature 13 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams, promising thrilling encounters and displays of team spirit.

Over three days of competition, these exceptional athletes will share the raw emotions of defeat and victory alike, embodying the true spirit of judo, respect, courage and perseverance. The Tokyo Deaflympics 2025 are set to be a powerful celebration of sport, inclusivity and human achievement, with judo once again at the heart of the action.
