Competing in the -60kg category on the World Judo Tour sporadically since 2015, here in Montréal he managed to pocket his first win in his eight World Tour Event.
“Montréal will remain a special Grand Prix for me with this first victory on the World Tour Tatami,” the athlete commented after his bouts.
In his first contest he beat home talent Alexandre Dibartolo. In his second bout he started well taking the lead via waza-ari but his opponent, Russian Robert Mshvidobadze floored him with ippon.
“I’m glad I won my first contest on the World Judo Tour, but I’m not completely satisfied with the way I competed. I used my body all right, but not enough my legs. I should have performed better,” the judoka commented.
“Soukphaxay Sithisane has been making good progress,” his Japanese coach added. “Laos is a small country and the budget is limited. But judokas like Sithisane work very hard. And they get better every day. His presence here is in preparation for the Olympics.”
