For IBSA coaches this is magnified as they are often the eyes for their athletes too, introducing them to each new environment and logistical challenge, teaching them how to manage new countries, new arenas and new people effectively. This is a huge task and one which has consequences, those of emotional investment, a closeness which is illustrated by their reactions while coaching matside.
It is always true that in an IBSA judo warm-up room, there is a lot of physical contact, that is, contact to guide athletes with the navigation of each part of their day. It is inevitable that coaches must lead, protect and enable their judoka, to give them the confidence they need to perform at their best on the international stage. Balancing inspiration and protection is a complicated task and the IBSA coaches do it excellently.
Thank you to all the IBSA judo coaches who work with judoka in a compassionate, progressive and totally committed way, ensuring the athletes have the best opportunities to excel and meet their goals.
