As world number one, Xinran Hui (CHN) has already demonstrated that she belongs among the very best. Third in Lausanne in October, as well as in Qingdao, Dushanbe and at the 2026 Asian Championships, she will need to take one more step forward if her world ranking is to be reflected on the podium. With the young Chinese judoka, anything is possible!
Xinran Hui (CHN).

She could meet her teammate Wenna Zhuang (CHN) in the semi-finals if both athletes progress as expected. Before that, however, Hui may have to overcome leading contenders such as Shirine Boukli (FRA) or Assunta Scutto (ITA), potentially from the very first round.

In the lower half of the draw, close attention will be paid to world number two Laura Martinez Abelenda (ESP), a finalist in Lausanne at the end of August, and Sabina Giliazova (RUS). At 32, Giliazova is already one of the most experienced judoka in the category.

Wakana Koga (JPN) is another athlete to watch closely. A bronze medallist at the 2025 World Championships, she could yet prove herself dominant. The field of contenders for the ultimate title is broad. By tomorrow evening, we will know whether the world ranking has been respected or not.
