Having played a pivotal role in the success of the judo competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the IJF’s continuous efforts to promote and develop judo globally were evident throughout the event, which saw top athletes from around the world compete in a showcase of skill and sportsmanship.
The IJF is the global governing body for the sport of judo, responsible for organising major international judo events, such as the World Judo Championships and those of the World Judo Tour. It oversees the global ranking system for judoka, ensuring fair competition and qualification standards for events like the Olympic Games.
Deeply involved in the development of judo at all levels, the IJF runs various educational programmes for coaches, referees and athletes to maintain high standards within the sport. It also implements initiatives aimed at making judo accessible to more people, including youth programmes and efforts to introduce the sport in schools worldwide.
The presence of these IJF leaders at the Paris 2024 Olympics highlighted the federation’s dedication to supporting judo athletes and ensuring judo remains a prominent and respected discipline in the world of sports.
Marius L. Vizer emphasised this commitment on the social media platform X, sharing, “Judo stands as a cornerstone of the Olympic movement, embodying the core values that unite athletes, nations and the world.” He continued, “The judo family is unwavering in its dedication to promoting respect, friendship, courage, and peace, values that are essential to the spirit of the Olympics. As an integral part of the Olympic tradition, we are committed to further elevating judo on the world stage.”
