Henk Plugge is the refereeing director of IBSA Judo. A very experienced referee himself and having been involved in refereeing matters for many years, he was supervising the refereeing commission on the occasion of the Paralympic Games Paris 2024. As the third day was about to begin, he shared his impression of the first two days.

"I can really tell you that it is an amazing event that we are part of here in Paris. I have never seen it before, I mean, this high a level in all sectors.

We had high level contests throughout the three days of competition. It's impressive to witness the level of the VI athletes now. But the great success of the Paralympics is also, in part, a result of the public fervour. That, we never saw before either. All the ingredients were here to make it a fantastic event.

Coming back to refereeing, I am really happy to have this level of refereeing. We had very few penalties and not many golden scores; all the contests were very intense. During the first two days, we had no serious incidents. The refereeing commission is also really pleased with the behaviour of the coaches. They are working at a high level. The referees are doing a fantastic job. It is clear that the referees and the commission are really working together.

Yesterday when I arrived for day 2, I was in a good mood and I am today too, for the third day. Of course we still have one more day but I am confident that it will be like the first two days.

I do want to thank the IJF for the great support IBSA Judo has been benefiting from in recent years. Since Tokyo 2020, there were a lot of changes, positive changes, that would not have been possible without the IJF. We are setting a very high standard.

I can say that we delivered a really good product here and I am very proud of it."
