From July 2-7 an Olympic Solidarity course (Level 1 - coaching assistant) led by IJF Expert Amadeu Dias De Moura Junior of Brazil, was held in Montevideo, Uruguay. A total of 16 people participated in the course and followed an extensive programme based on the values of Judo.

Amadeu Dias De Moura Junior based his teaching on a theoretical and practical approach and especially emphasized the pedagogical dimension of our sport. The IJF expert said: “The interest of all the participants was very high. Some students had a very good theoretical knowledge and others were very good from a practical point of view but at the end of the course we had a more homogeneous level. I am pleased to say that the objectives of the Olympic Solidarity course were reached.

The course was open in the presence of the President of the National Federation, Mr. Eliseo ROUX as well as the vice president and the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, who was also present for the conclusion of the course along Eliseo Roux. During the closing ceremony, Amadeu Dias De Moura Junior declared: “Uruguay has a relative low number of judoka but the aim is to increase this number. For this reason, this training course was a success and will help to achieve the goals of the federation.“

Every year, the International Judo Federation participates in several Olympic Solidarity courses (Technical Courses for Coaches and Development of National Sports System) and provides expertise through high ranked and experienced judoka, which are nominated by the IJF Education and coaching commission led by Mohammed Meridja. The aim of the Olympic Solidarity is to organize assistance for all the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), particularly those with the greatest needs, through multi-faceted programmes prioritizing athlete development, training of coaches and sports administrators, and promoting the Olympic ideals.
