Thus the Polidesportivo in the Autonomous Region of Príncipe came alive with excitement on 15th July as the highly anticipated São Tomé and Príncipe National Judo Championships took place. The event proved to be a true celebration of judo talent, with all participants and officials demonstrating their skill and sportsmanship during the competition.
The event, organised by Judo Global São Tomé and Príncipe (the national judo federation), was a resounding success, bringing together 51 talented judoka, aged between 8 and 21, with 42 male and 9 female athletes. The event saw the participation of 10 athletes from São Tomé Island and an impressive 41 athletes proudly representing Príncipe Island, highlighting our commitment to the development of judo in both regions.
Andre Rosa, the President of the federation, said, "We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr Stephan Knabe, Consul of São Tomé and Príncipe in Germany, for his valuable support in making the event a reality. We also thank the São Tomé and Príncipe Olympic Committee for their continued commitment to promoting sports in the nation, Turbo CST for their generous support, contributing to the growth and development of judo, the government of the Autonomous Region of Príncipe for their endorsement and dedication to fostering sporting excellence, the Regional Football Association for their collaboration and effort to promote sport at the regional level, and Mr António Barros for his valuable assistance and commitment to the successful organisation of the championship.
This is a great achievement for our young federation and an important step towards the future of judo in the country. We are confident that promoting the event will contribute to the growth of sport, showcase the talent of our young athletes and foster unity in our nation.
