Following the success of the 2024 World Championships Kata in Las Vegas, USA, a prestigious passing of the baton has taken place. The IJF Kata Commission has enjoyed many years of development and growth under the leadership of Franco Capelletti (ITA), 10th dan, a man whose passion for kata has shone through every appearance he has made in the role of chair.

Mr Capelletti will stay heavily involved with commission activities, taking up a new position as an advisor to the commission, while the title of IJF Kata Commission Chair passes to another great judoka, another 10th dan with vast experience. Former IJF Secretary General, France’s first world champion Mr Jean-Luc Rouge has been appointed and is honoured to be tasked with filling such big shoes.

Mr Capelletti and Mr Rouge have been key players in the advancement of the kata movement in recent years and their collaboration has opened the door to progressive and exciting plans for the 2025 season and beyond. Both men are members of the IJF Hall of Fame, such is their impact in the world of judo.
