Like every year, the world will think a little more about its children than usual on the occasion of World Children's Day which has taken place since 1954 on 20th November, a date which corresponds to the date of signing of the Declaration on the Rights of the Child. The objective of such a day of celebration is to shine a spotlight on an idea or theme, in this case children's rights. This in no way suggests not thinking about this theme and especially not working on it the rest of the year.

For many years, the International Judo Federation has been active in the promotion of judo and its values among the young generations. We believe, as Jigoro Kano Shihan did, that judo can change the lives of young people and help them become better citizens.

World Children’s Day was established by the United Nations to promote international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare. 20th November was not chosen randomly as after the declaration was first announced and celebrated in 1954, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

"Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can play an important part in making World Children's Day relevant for their societies, communities and nations.

World Children's Day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children's rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children," says the UN.

Through all its activities, including Judo for Children, Judo in Schools, Judo for Peace and more, the international judo community is committed to supporting children's rights. In difficult times, this is more than important as children represent both the present and the future of humanity.

As we approach World Children's Day, the IJF will commemorate this significant occasion by highlighting the exceptional initiatives undertaken by national judo federations globally to enhance the well-being of children.

In light of this, we are excited to open our social media platforms to spotlight the commendable efforts of our member federations in making a positive difference in the lives of children.

Let's celebrate the youth, let's celebrate our children, happy World Children's Day! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cz3DuVgNXnQ/?hl=en
