The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum has opened an exhibition entitled Woven into History, dedicated to the Baku 2026 World Judo Championships.
Opening Ceremony

Eight costumes worn during the opening ceremony are displayed alongside the historic Azerbaijani carpets that inspired their design. Created by designer Laman Suleymanova, the costumes reinterpret the colours, motifs and remarkable craftsmanship of the country’s carpet weaving tradition in a contemporary stage setting.

The exhibition creates a direct link between Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage and the artistic dimension of the championships. It also reflects the ambition to present Azerbaijani judo not only through sporting achievement, but as an integral part of the country’s cultural life.

Specially created for the opening ceremony, the costumes have been donated by the Azerbaijan Judo Federation to the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum. The gesture ensures that a part of the cultural programme presented to the world during the championships will be preserved and passed on to future generations.

The opening of the exhibition took place in the presence of many guests. Among them were IJF Secretary General, Dr Lisa Allan, and IJF Governance and Strategy Director, Estony Pridgeon.

Woven into History is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum’s exhibition hall, until 11th October.
