The IJF is proud to have a 3rd member of our judo family nominated to the IOC. In Paris, ahead of the opening ceremony, the IOC Executive Board met for the 142nd IOC Session and among them was Argentinian Olympic champion Paula Pareto.

Paula Pareto joins Yasuhiro Yamashita and Yael Arad on the IOC, a huge step forward for Argentina, Pan America, for women in sport and for judo. She brings with her not only an incredible sporting record but a high-powered academic career too, seeing her working as a doctor in her home country.

In her elite judo career she became world champion in 2015, Olympic champion in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and was continental champion no less than 5 times, before we consider her additional 19 World Judo Tour medals.

The 38 year old believes in education and in our judo values and in true judo form will undoubtedly contribute much to the discussion while also learning and developing her own knowledge in new, broader contexts.
