Every year, the International Judo Federation and the whole judo community celebrate World Judo Day on 28th October. This day represents a lot for all the judo fans around the world as it is the birthday of the founder of judo, Jigoro Kano Shihan. The theme in 2024 is WELLBEING.

Wellbeing is a complex combination of a person’s physical, mental, emotional and social health factors. Wellbeing is strongly linked to happiness and life satisfaction. Therefore, wellbeing could be described as how you feel about yourself and your life.

World Judo Day is now fast approaching and you can participate in many possible ways. In this article, we give you some ideas to activate your judo community at a local, regional and international level.

Online Wellness Content

Create and share online content focused on wellbeing, such as instructional videos, blog posts and live Q&A sessions. Topics could range from stretching routines and nutrition tips to mental health advice and motivational talks.

Social Media Campaigns

Launch social media campaigns encouraging judoka to share how judo has contributed to their well-being. Use hashtags like #JudoforWellBeing and #HealthyJudoka to create a global conversation and share success stories.

Virtual Wellbeing Workshops

Offer virtual workshops on various wellbeing topics, allowing participation from judoka around the world. These can include interactive sessions on yoga, healthy eating and mental resilience.

By implementing these activations, judoka, clubs and national federations can promote a holistic approach to wellbeing that extends beyond the dojo, encouraging judoka to lead balanced, healthy and fulfilling lives. This approach also reinforces judo values, showing how the discipline of the sport contributes to overall life wellness.

You are totally free to invent programmes according to your needs and the needs of your judoka. Don't forget to let us know how you see the promotion of wellbeing for judo people and what you will do on World Judo Day, by sending us your feedback to [email protected]

Until 28th October, be well and be socially well!
